Meeting report, Nairobi 12 November 2003

This meeting brought together people from key organisations that run resource centres and have experience in information and knowledge management in East Africa. It was an opportunity to explore the potential of linking their work more effectively.

Participants in the resource centre networking meeting at a visit to KANCO's resource centreThe programme included visits to resource centres at Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) and African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF). The meeting was organised by Exchange and Source International Information Support Centre, with support from AfriAfya: all organisations with a keen interest in information and knowledge management, and a concern to see networking for more effective working.

Participants explored a range of challenges in their work, to share existing solutions that participants had found, but also to look wider to additional needs and initiatives. A range of key priorities and needs were identified and some practical details and next steps were developed. Participants also reviewed the contributions they could make to these next steps.

Ideas for follow-up included:

  • setting up an electronic platform for discussion and sharing resources specific to resource centres and information and knowledge management
  • further face-to-face meetings
  • developing funding proposals as a consortium.
