Exchanging relevant information is one of the entry points to effective networking and learning. The Bernard van Leer information hub arose from a piece of desk-based research by Exchange's research officer. The research showed that children under eight years old are rarely included in HIV and AIDS programmes. The research also identified key organisations and projects that are tackling this gap. Once a gap in knowledge and practice is identified it makes sense to draw existing resources together in one place to make the information more accessible. So an online information hub on HIV and early childhood development was developed with Source International Information Support Centre. A network of advisors at the Bernard van Leer foundation help to identify key materials and review additions, raising awareness of contemporary work and promoting communities of interest at the same time. Promoting a culture of using existing information, applying research evidence and connecting people working in the same field relies on making sure development practitioners can access existing knowledge and research. Resource centres and themed information "windows" play a role in supporting access to existing research and in supporting signposting, adapting and repackaging of materials for particular audiences. »More on integrated communication and communicating research
